In Russia, global brands made up 58% of the smartphone market shares. According to Flurry Analytics, the top 10 smartphone manufacturers globally are Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, LG, Motorola, Vivo, Sony, and Lenovo. According to Counterpoint Market Monitor Service, the top 5 smartphone manufacturers in Russia are Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Bright & Quick, and Xiaomi.
Chinese brands, such as Xiaomi, Bright & Quick, and Huawei had 32% of market shares. Chinese brands continue to grow in Russia, as the demand for affordable smartphones increases. Huawei’s market shares increased from 5% to 11% from Q3 2016 to 2017. Bright & Quick’s market shares increased from 2% to 5% from Q3 2016 to q3 2017. Xiaomi increased from 1% to 4% from Q3 2016 to Q3 2017.
Two of Russia’s local brands had significant quarter over quarter growth. Tele2 grew by 61%, and Prestigio grew by 54% in Q3 of 2017. LTE smartphones held 85% of the market, and grew 40% annually, and 54% sequentially.
Apple grew by 56% in Russia in the past year. This is due to the price drop of previous generations that occurs. The iPhone SE and the iPhone 6 were the best selling smartphones online during Q3 of 2017. Globally Apple’s growth decreased from 37% in 2016 to 34% in 2017. Although Apple still continued to dominate the individual market of smartphones.
In Russia, Samsung dominated the individual market of smartphones with market shares increasing from 25% to 29% from Q3 2016 to Q3 of 2017.Android devices tend to be more popular in Russia due to their affordability.
